MESSAGES FROM THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM

The Pool is open for business!

Whilst the pool fence is not quite perfect, it is indeed safe and compliant and was open for swimming from week 3. This is great news! You can help your learner maximise their swimming this term by reminding them to pack their swimmers, rashie, goggles, bathing cap and towel each week for their PE lesson. Goggles are essential, as are swimming caps. We look forward to hearing plenty of happy splashing sounds coming from the pool next week!

Camps

Year 5 had a very successful camp in Week 2, and last week it was the Year 4’s turn. We all had a wonderful time with everyone being able to experience archery, the giant swing, team challenges, raft building, circus skills and so much more. Every day challenges such as making our own beds, trying new ‘camp foods’, sleeping with friends and organising our own belongings were an excellent chance to develop resilience and independence and everyone came home feeling a sense of accomplishment and pride I’m sure.

Thank you very much to the teachers and parents who went along on these and all of our camps. We recognise that it requires a mammoth organising and planning task to get off the ground, and also requires the juggling and reorganising of your own home routines and children to be able to stay away for an extended period. Whilst on camp, your huge effort, stamina and energy makes these camps the success they are – thank you!

Pre-Prep Sessions

We have had our first Prep Transition session in week 2, with another scheduled in Weeks 3 and 4 respectively. These are a great chance for our littlest learners and their families to become familiar with our school and staff so that their first few days starting school next year are successful. Our Prep teachers will also be visiting our local Kindy’s in the coming weeks to support new learners’ transition from kindy to school with confidence.

If you have a little one beginning Prep with us in 2023, or know of someone who would like to join us next year, please return completed enrolment documents as soon as possible to allow us to connect with you and provide you with important information to prepare for the new year.

After School Playground Closure

It is unfortunate, however we will be closing our Junior Playground for use in the afternoons after school by children and their families in response to on-going damage and risky play. In recent weeks, equipment has been broken and plants and gardens ruined. There have also been a number of injuries across the year as children play without active supervision from families. We are very fortunate to have some beautiful parks and playgrounds in our town. We encourage you to continue to meet, chat and build friendships as a community, however, this can no longer take place after school in our playground. Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

YEAR 5 CAMP REPORTS

School Camp

Written by Billie M

Inspired by year 5 school camp.

Day 1 of school camp

When we first arrived at camp all the students got told about the campsite, the history and about the elderly people who represented the land. After the talk we got lead out of the main hall with all the cabins in its hallways. We walked in a line until we got to a food court and had our morning tea, which was a piece of fruit and Anzac cookies. We played a few games in the food court and the games that we played were called splat, special word, finding nemo, scissors paper rock chain and the special finger. They were all very fun games but in the next few minutes we were led to our first mysterious activity!

As we walked down the wet rocky path each walking with caution we came across bows and arrows. It was archery with real arrows, real bows and real targets! As we got shooting, our instructor Jack made it more challenging by adding swinging milk cartons to the target. Just before we were about to leave archery our instructor told us the green glass door riddle. You can bring a ball but no hoop, a tree but no leaves, a kitten but no cat and you can bring a puppy but no dog. After we left archery we had our first and best lunch in my opinion. It was delicious fish in a wrap with coleslaw and sauce. After we gobbled up our scrumptious lunch we moved on to our next activity which was the glider possum.

Altogether as a group we trotted up a hill until we spotted a tall rope attached to a huge pine tree. Bellow that there was a long rope on the ground. The person that was going up the glider possum had a number of positions to do. They would be attached to the rope that was held up by the tree and the rope on the floor was used for everyone to lift up the person on the glider possum. One by one each person had their turn of pulling the rope and being lifted in the air “gracefully”.

After the fun activities for the day we got led to the food court and had our delicious meals and deserts. As we got ready for bed we watched a movie called Mr Bean on holiday. Mr Bean was a funny and happy movie which lifted everyone’s mood before bedtime.

Day 2 of school camp

As we woke up to the bright sun glaring in our faces, we threw ourselves out of bed and got ready for the day. we all lazily crawled to breakfast still tired until we sniffed the hot meals waiting for us. Delicious toast with scrambled eggs and a choice of cereal filled our hungry bellies. In a group we all got ready for canoeing, putting our togs on and scraping the satisfying sunscreen right off the lid, we adventured our way down to the lake. Our tall instructor that we called 6 foot 7 man was a canoeing master. He watched us gracefully flip our canoes in laughter.

As we all played some fun games in the water we unfortunately had to get changed out of our sandy uncomfortable clothes and move on to the next fun activity, but before we moved on we had some delicious morning tea. After our refreshing break we moved on to a breathtaking flying fox which was 8 metres high. We met instructor Jack again as he led the activity. As he showed us how to clip into our harnesses with full detail he started pulling the first person up onto the flying fox, but everyone else had to pull the person up to give the instructor some help.

Everyone ran out of breath by the end of the activity because everyone that was pulling the person up to the top of the flying fox had to sprint up a hill before the person went down the flying fox, which if you didn’t understand the sentence it was freakishly tiring. As our group walked back up huffing and puffing we smelled the scent of lunch in the air. After we gobbled up the yummy food, we got ready for our next adventure.

Everyone broke into fear looking at the tremendously high giant swing which was 10 metres in height and looked super scary. We were hoisted up high by the group, took deep breaths and let go of the rope. One by one everyone looked like their souls had left their bodies in fear.

Before dinner everyone headed back to their cabins to practise in our groups for talent night. At night we all went to Kirkwood Hall to perform our talent show. There was singing, dad jokes, magic tricks, dances, clowns and more!

As we all made our way back to our cabins with blankets and pillows stuffed in our hands we drowsed off to sleep peacefully.

The last day of camp.

As each and every person woke up at 6:00 in the morning tired and sore, we chucked everything in random bags and made our way to breakfast. As everyone scoffed the last breakfast down we had one last activity. ROCK CLIMBING! As we made our way to the colourful walls, we clipped our harnesses in and took turns. Each wall had its own name which was very convenient, and each wall got harder and harder. As we finished our activity we made our way to the food court and had some sausage rolls. We sadly said our goodbyes and ventured back to our school.

MY EXPERIENCE AT CAMP

By Connor M

My insides were churning when we pulled up at the Mapleton camp on Monday. It was sort of that feeling of waiting to go up on a plane. We first walked in and put our bags down, then sat and listened to the amazingly kind instructors that were waiting there to welcome us.

After that, we headed down to a yummy morning tea before heading to do our activities. There was a range of activities such as archery, canoeing, an eight metre high flying fox, a ten metre high giant swing, which scared me half to death but was still quite fun and a massive climbing wall. And last, but definitely not least, a nine metre high glider possum, which is where you get pulled up and just hang there nine metres in the air.

The absolutely lovely chefs prepared a range of delicious meals just for us. On the first day we had cake and fruit for morning tea, fish wraps and salad for lunch, freshly baked giant cookies for afternoon tea and sausages and mash for dinner. On the second day, for breakfast, we had sausages and scrambled eggs with toast, cereal and yoghurt and fruit, chicken parmigiana with chips for lunch, spring rolls for afternoon tea and spaghetti bolognaise for dinner followed by chocolate brownies for dessert. After that, we had a massive talent show where I know everyone laughed and then we were tucked in for bed for a good night sleep.

On the last day, we thanked all of the amazing workers, the chefs, the instructors and our wonderful teachers, Mrs Brown, Ms Savage, Mr Brennan and one of our very kind parents, Damian. Then we hopped on the bus and headed for home.

This was my first camp and it will be one I will remember for the rest of my life.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPARE JAM JARS?

In our P-2 Drama classes this term we are thinking about dreaming and children will be making a dream in our ‘Dream Factory’. In order to do this, they will each need a jam jar with a lid. If you have any spare jars filling up your cupboard under the sink, or gathering dust on a garage shelf, please consider donating them to the Arts department. They would be very gratefully received. Thanks, from Mrs Hall.
