MESSAGES FROM ADMINISTRATION TEAM
Welcome to Term 4!
This week school has been buzzing with stories of holiday adventures and fun! It was wonderful to see friends finding each other again on the first day and the playgrounds were buzzing with excitement as everyone greeted each other with smiles.
Our term ahead looks beyond busy! We will keep important dates close to hand to help us all stay on top of happenings! As ever, the term will culminate with Pomona in The Park. We are all starting to ramp up practices and costume design in readiness for the main event.
Swimming
Our swimming program is being slightly disrupted by the construction of our new school fence. We are aiming to swim again by week three. Please stay tuned for further communication about this as we await final building works to ensure the new fence is ready. Take a look if you haven’t already – it looks fantastic!
Staffing
Mrs Harch is taking some leave this term and Mel Clare is in the office taking over her role until the end of Week 5. Please get in touch with Mel anytime with questions or concerns. Mrs Jess Macdonald is teaching 2MC for the whole term and the class is fairly humming with excitement and busyness as the term’s learning takes off straight away.
Camps
Year 5 go on camp in Week 2, followed by Year 4 on camp in Week 3. Please get in touch with the office or class teachers should you have any questions or concerns at all prior to learners heading off.
Pre-Prep Sessions
This term we will host three Pre-Prep sessions. If you have a little one enrolled for 2023 or know of anyone interested in attending Prep next year, please make sure you’re on our mailing list for reminders and information about these events. They are a great way of ensuring a most successful start for our youngest learners in the new year. Spending time in classrooms and the sensory gardens enables them to develop a sense of familiarity and safety prior to them starting school. It also helps us parents feel great about our littlest ones starting school!
Fire Education
The Queensland Fire Service will be visiting our Year 1’s on Tuesday October 18th to talk all things fire safety. The best part of all is the visit to the firetruck. Rashies and swimmers can be packed on this day, as you can be sure everyone gets quite wet when they turn the hoses on!
Halloween Disco
October 28th is the date set for our Halloween Disco. Get your costumes ready and dust off your dancing shoes… it’s time to boogie!! Stay tuned for more information from our P&C regarding ticket sales and times.
Morning Starts
Last term we talked about the importance of starting school on time each day, and how a timely and settled start for your learner can make all the difference to their day. Taking a walk around the school today at 9am provided a window into a rich and dynamic array of learning opportunities in our classrooms, as I visited just a few to take a peek into what everyone was engaged in. Preps and Year 1’s were practicing spelling words and counting patterns, and had begun some reading groups. Year 2’s were playing with words and noun groups to up-level their writing, Year 3’s were responding to a writing prompt about ‘A Day in the Life of an Ant’, and our Year 4’s were discussing prepositional phrases and how to use them in writing. Year 5’s were already working hard on solving probability dilemmas and responding to writing prompts and Year 6’s were working on spelling words.
Photos below can’t convey the calm, settled and focused energy in our classrooms but hopefully shine a small light on the hard work of our learners and the high level of expertise of our teachers. Most importantly, I think they highlight the importance of starting the day on the right foot, and all of this begins with starting school on time.

LOTE
During Term 3 a class vs class competition took place in Japanese between grade 5 and grade 6. This term was a close call with all four classes sitting within 5 points of each other for the entirety of the term. Even I wasn’t sure who would be victorious. However, in the last week of points 6CL shot ahead by a massive 27 points to take the lead with 427 good behaviour points for the term. For term 3 we discovered Yakimeshi or Japanese fried rice, this simple recipe consisted of Rice, Bacon, Spring onion, Egg, Soy Sauce and seasonings. From my own personal stash, I brought in a wasabi flavoured furikake (rice seasoning) for students to try on top of their fried rice, it was a hit!
A huge thank you to Erbacher’s Fruit and Veg for their continued support and donation of fresh produce for the last two years, without it I wouldn’t be able to offer this amazing experience for the students. In Term 4 students will be working to win Curry Rice, which was an absolute favourite last year! Let the competition begin!
THANK YOU TO ERBACHER’S FRUIT AND VEG FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT
