SPELLATHON FUNDRAISING

A total of 72 students took up the challenge of fundraising to refurbish the Year 2/3/4 play area. These students raised $3938. Wow!

The highest fundraiser was Caroline from 6PT. She received a stand-up paddle board for her effort.

The second highest fundraiser was Mindari from 2/3KL. She received a scooter and helmet.

We had equal third highest fundraisers who are brothers, Oliver from 3/4MW and Finn from 5AB. These two boys received a fishing rod each and a shared tackle box. These 4 students together raised over 20% of the school total. Your effort is appreciated, thank you.

2/3KL has won the class party being the class who raised the most cumulative total. Yippee for them! This class raised 14% of our school total. Many thanks for your effort.

Our 7 Spelling Bee champions received their medallions on parade yesterday. Well done to these super spellers.

Pomona State School would like to shout out a big thank you to our community donators who made it possible to reward our students’ fantastic effort.

PRE-PREP SESSIONS

BILLY MOORE SHIELD 2022

On Wednesday the 31st of August, 20 Pomona State School students attended the annual Billy Moore Shield held at Noosa Pirates Rugby League Club, Tewantin. Billy Moore Shield is a rugby league development carnival where students of all abilities can come and play/develop at the great game of Rugby League.

Selected Year 5/6 (and a couple of brave year 4) students have been hard at work, training since the beginning of Term 3, multiple times a week to be ready to compete on the day. We had enough players for 2 teams – Pomona 1 and Pomona 2, with both teams having great days out, winning a couple of games each and scoring loads of tries. Special thanks to all the parents and carers who assisted in transporting students to and from the carnival and also to Mrs T for managing the teams.

Next term is the Year 3 and 4 students turn (Moses Mbye Shield – October 21, @ Nambour RL) as well as our Year 5 and 6 girls (Annette Brander Shield – November 4, Maroochydore RL). Training has begun at lunch times!

Yours in Sport
Mr Byrne

POMONA’S GOT TALENT

Last Thursday, six talented students took to the stage in our Pomona’s Got Talent grand-final. The competition was fierce and included two jaw-dropping dance routines performed by Indiana G and River. Pippa delivered an emotionally charged original composition and Mason and Finn gave us an impressively polished and sweet-sounding rendition of Sweet Child of Mine. All did a sterling job, but in the end the judges deemed Summer’s beautiful vocal performance to be the worthy winner. Her prize will be to perform for a packed audience on the stage at Pomona in the Park, later in the year. Congratulations Summer!

Pomona State School’s very own rock band, The Blackbirds took to the main stage at the Noosa Country Show last week. The students had worked really hard to smooth out their performance and their efforts paid off. Each of them shone brightly and this was reflected in the awesome level of support they received from the crowd. Watch this space, I don’t think this is the last we will hear from The Blackbirds.
