MESSAGES FROM THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM
Uniforms
Thank you so much for your support in helping your child come to school with the correct uniform. Navy or school jumpers, skorts, shorts, and navy hats are all the core components of our uniform. During winter, girls may wear leggings underneath their shorts or skorts. White, navy or black socks with closed-in, flat-soled footwear are also requirements.
Nail-polish and jewellery other than a single set of studs or sleepers and a watch are not part of our uniform. Hair should be tied back with hair ties and ribbons in the school colours of navy and gold. The full uniform requirements are listed in the Parent Handbook on our website at this link
https://pomonass.eq.edu.au/support-and-resources/forms-and-documents/documents
Lost Property
There are a large number of lunch boxes, jumpers and even swimming gear from last term currently in lost property. At the end of the term, this will all be donated to charity shops so please have your child check if you are missing items.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Primary
Join the adventure!
We encourage you to join us in unlocking the wonderful world of reading for your children. Help them to join the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Will they fly above the clouds, dive into the ocean or jump into a rocket ship? All students from Kindergarten to Year 10 are challenged to read 12 books by 9 September 2022.
You can help your children sign up via the website, choose their own avatar and log all the books they read over the course of the Challenge. Weekly prizes will be awarded to students who log a book that week, with major prizes drawn when the challenge ends.
Books don’t have to be in English – children are encouraged to read books in their first language.
There are extraordinary tourism prizes to be won each week.
Sign up your children on the website to begin their magical journey.

PROCEDURES FOR……………..
UPDATING PARENT/CARER CONTACT DETAILS
Please ensure our office have your correct contact details – telephone numbers (for us to contact you – particularly important in the case of an emergency with your child), and email address (for invoices, newsletter, etc). Please also ensure that your child/ren’s emergency contacts are up to date.
ADMINSTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child requires staff to administer medication at school, please contact the school office in the first instance to discuss your child’s requirements.
Please note, school staff will only administer medication that:
- has been prescribed by a qualified health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist)
- is in its original container
- has an attached pharmacy label Pharmacy label must show prescribing doctor’s name.
Office staff will ask you to complete and sign Section 1 of the Administration of medication at school record sheet.
School staff are bound by these regulations and we hope that all parents will acknowledge and cooperate with these rules.
HEAD LICE
The presence of head lice is a very common childhood occurrence in the community. The primary responsibility for the management and treatment of head lice in students belongs with parents.
As a school we notify parents via a letter if a parent has reported to the school that their child has head lice. This letter is sent to all the students in the class.
Students who are suspected of having head lice or eggs present in their hair are not excluded from class or school. However, if notified by the school, a parent may choose to remove their child from school to administer immediate treatment to their child.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE
EVERY DAY COUNTS – the message is the same in 2020. The simple fact is, the more regularly your child attends school, the more they learn. Aside from illness and bereavement, for example, attendance is expected every day. Keep an eye out on Facebook for regular videos from Education Queensland. If for any reason your child will be absent from school, please ring our 24/7 absentee line on 54 808 260 prior to 8.45am.
STAFF MEETING DAY - TUESDAY
Parents, please be advised that on Tuesday afternoon I request that all teaching staff attend a meeting which starts at 3:00pm. Staff will leave their rooms quickly once the bell rings to signal the end of the day. If you have anything urgent to discuss with your child’s teacher please leave a message at the office for that teacher

On Friday the 6th of May, 13 Pomona students selected from lunch time trials held in term 1, attended the Noosa District Cross Country Trials held at Noosaville State School. These students were:
10yrs – Billie M, Emily A,
Zahlia B, Tayte B, Harry B & Liam M
11yrs – Mason G, Macey H, Tyson S, Baeden B &
Edward B
12yrs – Evie T & Aaron F
The challenging course required students to run either a 2km (10 years) or 3km race (11/12 years), through nearby bushland and parts of the school. All of our Pomona students tried extremely hard in the hope of finishing in the top 6 so that they could represent Noosa District at the regional trials. We were fortunate enough to have Zahlia B finish 2nd in the 10 years girls’ race! Zahlia will now compete at the regional trials held at Maroochydore on Tuesday the 31st of May. Well done to all of our Pomona runners! Big thanks must go to Ms Laird for managing the team and to all parents who transported students and cheered them on!
Our attention in HPE is now on athletics with our school carnival scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday the 14th and 15th of June (week 9). Tuesday the 14th of June is only for students turning 9, 10, 11 and 12 in 2022 and is a full day. On this day students participate in their field events, including shotput, high jump, long jump and 200m heats. On the following day, Wednesday the 15th, we have our full school carnival where all ages do their sprint races. After first break the lower school (ages 5 – 8) have their own junior carnival and the upper school (ages 9 – 12) finish off the day with ball games and relays. Please note that on Wednesday - the second day, the lower school usually finish their junior carnival by second break and the upper school go all day, with the champion house and age champions announced at the end of the day. Hope to see many families here once again!
Finally, Congratulations to Jacob M for successfully making the under 12 Noosa District Rugby League team and Edward B for making the under 12 AFL team! Great to see so many talented kids from our school making district teams.

BIKE ON
Last week the Year 4’s had a visit from Bike On. We learnt how to check our bikes with the ABCD check. ‘A’ means Air, which means we have to make sure our tyres are pumped up. ‘B’ means Brakes, so we have to make sure our brakes work. ‘C’ means Chain, so make sure your chains are not stiff. D means Direction, so make sure your handle bars work. We did bike limbo or duck under the branch, we went over speed bumps and scanned to see what was behind us. The Year 4’s learnt to give way and stop for three seconds at a stop sign. We balanced bean bags on our heads to test our balance. We went under things and over speed bumps with the bean bags on our heads! We had a slow race and I won it!

On Tuesday of Week 5 the year fours had a visit from Bike On. They taught us the A, B, C, D check. Air, Brakes, Chain and Direction. These are all the safety things you have to check before you start riding on the road. They checked that our helmets were straight, not slightly backwards and not slightly forwards. We went over hard obstacles like speed bumps. They also taught us how to indicate and scan to see what is behind us. They put up two signs with one saying Stop and one saying Give Way. Through the track they would put up a pool noodle or a tree branch and we would have to duck under them.

Year 4’s enjoyed a visit from Bike On last week and they taught us the ABCD checklist. It stands for Air, Brakes, Chain and Direction. They taught us how to indicate and scan. We also had to weave between cones. At the end we had a slow race and the person who came last won! We had to balance bean bags on our heads and we balanced them all the way to the end and we got a high five! It was great and we had heaps of fun! Thanks, Bike On!

Bike On came to visit our school last week and they taught the Year 4’s the ABCD check. This stands for Air, Brakes, Chains and Direction. The year 4’s also got to do an obstacle course which taught us how to indicate and scan. We also had to duck under pool noodles which was fun. There were little signs saying either ‘Stop’ or ‘Give Way’. When it said ‘Stop’, you would have to stop for 3 seconds and when it said ‘Give Way’, you would have to wait until the person got to the other side. Thank you Bike On for teaching us!
