MESSAGES FROM THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM
STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME (SRS)
Thank you to the families who are up to date with their SRS payments. The second instalment is due on the 13th May.
After this date, families who have not taken up the offer or who do not have up to date payments will no longer have access to the resources covered under the scheme. These include access to Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Maths Seeds.
If you are experiencing financial difficulty please contact the office on 54 808 222 to discuss a plan with our Business Manager.
UNIFORMS
As the weather gets colder and we start wrapping up in warmer clothes, can you please help our children to ensure they are wearing either plain navy or school jumpers. Girls can wear leggings or tights to keep warm, but need to wear these under their skorts, and not as ‘outer wear’. Navy tracksuit pants are also a great way to keep warm and still play safely on our equipment. As ever, hair tied up is important to keep hair neat and tidy, and please, no jewellery! This is an important element of safety when climbing, swinging and running, and means special treasures don’t get lost. Thank you for your support in helping our children stay warm, learn, live and play during colder months.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council had its first Free Dress Day this week. The monies raised will go towards our own school this term, with the group deciding that some new outdoor mats are in order. We use these for all of our athletics carnivals and special events and are so grateful for their efforts to organise this day, and your own efforts to support it. Thank you so much everyone!
SCHOOL CLEANER
We are looking for a cleaner! It is a temporary position with slightly flexible hours. We need the successful applicant to be able to hold a Positive Notice Blue Card and undergo a Criminal History Check. If you are interested please call our office on 54808222.
NAPLAN
Naplan will take place throughout Weeks 4 and 5. Naplan days are ‘situation normal’ here at school and are taken in our stride. They are ordinary school days, require no special preparation or treatment and are part of our every-day learning. We look forward to getting into the tasks in store for us!
WELLBEING AND ENGAGEMENT SURVEY FOR STUDENTS
Throughout week 3, students have had the opportunity to participate in the Wellbeing and Engagement survey. We are looking at ways to collect information on the wellbeing and engagement of our learners so we can support them in the best way possible.
The survey asked about: resilience, school climate, relationships (peers, teachers, home), sense of belonging, motivation and perseverance, academic self-concept, personal social capabilities, future outlook and aspirations, general life satisfaction and general health.66
Later in the year, our students will have the chance to let us know about aspects of their wellbeing using the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Tool. This tool is designed for our upper primary learners and will ensure we use an evidence-based approach to support the development of our learner’s wellbeing. It will be a unique opportunity to have a collective student voice on issues such as engagement, motivation and resilience. More information on this will follow next term, with FAQ’s and details about information collection, storage and use.
PARENT LIBRARY BOOK SELECTION
This newsletter’s Parent Library Selection is a website. Head here:
https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/fact-sheet-healthy-sleep-children/
For information about healthy sleep habits, hours of sleep children require for optimal development and some tips for developing healthy sleep routines for all of us.
PROCEDURES FOR………..
UPDATING PARENT/CARER CONTACT DETAILS
Please ensure our office have your correct contact details – telephone numbers (for us to contact you – particularly important in the case of an emergency with your child), and email address (for invoices, newsletter, etc). Please also ensure that your child/ren’s emergency contacts are up to date.
ADMINSTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child requires staff to administer medication at school, please contact the school office in the first instance to discuss your child’s requirements.
Please note, school staff will only administer medication that:
- has been prescribed by a qualified health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist)
- is in its original container
- has an attached pharmacy label Pharmacy label must show prescribing doctor’s name.
Office staff will ask you to complete and sign Section 1 of the Administration of medication at school record sheet.
School staff are bound by these regulations and we hope that all parents will acknowledge and cooperate with these rules.
HEAD LICE
The presence of head lice is a very common childhood occurrence in the community. The primary responsibility for the management and treatment of head lice in students belongs with parents.
As a school we notify parents via a letter if a parent has reported to the school that their child has head lice. This letter is sent to all the students in the class.
Students who are suspected of having head lice or eggs present in their hair are not excluded from class or school. However, if notified by the school, a parent may choose to remove their child from school to administer immediate treatment to their child.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE
EVERY DAY COUNTS – the message is the same in 2020. The simple fact is, the more regularly your child attends school, the more they learn. Aside from illness and bereavement, for example, attendance is expected every day. Keep an eye out on Facebook for regular videos from Education Queensland. If for any reason your child will be absent from school, please ring our 24/7 absentee line on 54 808 260 prior to 8.45am.
STAFF MEETING DAY - TUESDAY
Parents, please be advised that on Tuesday afternoon I request that all teaching staff attend a meeting which starts at 3:00pm. Staff will leave their rooms quickly once the bell rings to signal the end of the day. If you have anything urgent to discuss with your child’s teacher please leave a message at the office for that teacher

RIDE2SCHOOL DAY
|
Eden from 3/4MW with |
Students participated in the celebration of Ride2School Day at Pomona State School on Friday 25 March 2022. The winner of the lucky draw prize for participants was Eden in 3/4 MW.
Ride to school day is about exercise and the environment to reduce pollution. Also, you can get a better sense of direction.
Alex
On Friday the 25th of March, we had ride to school day. On ride to school day, the kids of Pomona State School can walk, ride or scoot to school. We do ride to school day because it is good for fitness and the environment.
Thomas
Ride 2 School Day was on Friday the 25th of March 2022. Pomona State School participated in this event. The event is about staying healthy and helping the environment by using less fuel. Ride 2 School Day is important because we won’t just be using less fuel, we will be helping the environment by producing less coal. This will also help with preventing coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. The reef animals will stay alive and not get dreadfully ill.
Annabelle
On the 25th of March on Friday, Pomona State School is participating in Ride 2 School Day. You can walk, ride, scoot and skate for this day for your health. Riding, scooting and skating is really good for your health. You don’t have to go the whole way, you could get dropped off close to the school.
Kadyn

AMAZING ARTWORK FROM 4SF
4SF have put together silhouette art using oil pastels for the sunset/sunrise with their chosen silhouette.
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and recognises the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.
P/1KT HAVE BEEN BUSY
Last term P/1KT were busy learning about narratives and character descriptions. They loved their focus stories, Pout-Pout Fish and Bully Bully Shark.
