FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Only 4 weeks of term left until summer school holidays!
We have an extremely busy end of term with whole school events, Year 6 Graduation and Pomona in the Park spectacular on November 25th. Please ensure students are attending everyday as staff and students are completing end of year assessments and rehearsing Pomona in the Park routines.
I would like to thank our school community for your patience whilst the school swimming pool was being repaired. The vandalism was very costly to repair and required the pool to be drained and refilled. Not only was this an unnecessary expense financially it was also quite costly for our environmental resources. If you have any information regarding this act of vandalism please contact the school or police via PoliceLink.
2022 CLASSES
Class planning for 2022 is well underway. Thank you to all students who returned their yellow forms by the end of October. We will have 12 classes next year pending Day 8 enrolment collection (3rd February 2022).
HATS
Please ensure your child has a broad brimmed school hat at school every day. Broad brimmed school hats are available for purchase from the uniform shop for $15. Our school promotes being sun safe with the wearing of broad brimmed hats and sunscreen at all times when children are outside of the classroom, this includes HPE specialist lessons, lunch play times, camps and school excursions. Coming into summer it is imperative that all students are wearing a broad brimmed hat and sunscreen in applied at home. All classes are supplied with sunscreen for your child to reapply during the day.
DO YOU HAVE A CHILD STARTING PREP IN 2022?
Our school wants to ensure your child and family enjoy a warm welcome to our community and a positive start to school. A successful transition to school is more than a great first day. It is, your child feeling welcome, safe and confident in their new school environment. Please contact Mrs Barbara Harch on (07) 5480 8222 to discuss how we can support your child’s transition to school.

More information regarding the bursary will be sent home with interested students.

POMONA IN THE PARK – 25th November
The Fabulous end of year spectacular of Pomona in the Park will take place on Thursday evening 25th November at Stan Topper Park. The event will commence at 6:00pm and ask if families can be seated on the grass by 5:50pm. If there are any COVID restrictions in place that prevent us from holding our concert at Stan Topper Park we will make alternative arrangements and hold the performances in our school hall. The program for the evening will be sent to families in Week 8.

POMONA STATE SCHOOL SAYS THANK YOU TO THEIR COMMUNITY
Just in case you missed our article in the Cooroora Connect.
Pomona State School is a hive of activity with designing costumes, choreographing dances, rehearsing and mixing music. The teachers have planned a line-up of acts to rival any international variety show, all for a fabulous night of entertainment. The following date should be in everyone’s’ calendar as an event not to be missed as Pomona State School presents to its community “Pomona in the Park” on Thursday 25th November.
Pomona in the Park is the school’s annual community event. Family and friends from across the hinterland will once again converge on Stan Topper Park with their picnic rugs and hampers for an evening of fun and entertainment that culminates in a farewell to our Year 6 students.
The Park comes alive with the sound of music! Yes, it is the time of year when Pomona is able to sit back as the students and staff of Pomona State School say thank you, for the community support they have received this year and what a fantastic way to celebrate the completion of another school year. Showcased on the night is the talent we have at Pomona State School and once again you will be amazed at the range of ideas from teachers and students. You will also have the opportunity to listen to our school choir, the winners of our recent Pomona’s Got Talent and our very own rock band the “Pomones”. Hope you caught up with the Pomones’ performance at the Noosa Show.
A BIG thank you to the generous sponsorship by our major sponsors Alligator Water Tank Cleaning, Pomona Post Office, Unity Water and GROW Landscapes. This allows the students the opportunity to perform with the support of professional sound and lighting technicians and to showcase their achievements in The Arts and Technology. Whilst the Lions Club keep everyone’s stomach full with a wonderful BBQ and the other stall holders help round off a pleasant evening out.
The Pomona State School P&C Association is running a Mega Raffle, which is full of fabulous prizes from local businesses and community members who have all given generously to help raise funds for the continuation of the excellent programs offered to the students at Pomona State School. To be one of the winners, purchase your tickets prior to or during the evening but don’t miss out. The prizes are drawn throughout the concert.
The “show” commences at 5:30pm, so bring your rugs and cameras to Stan Topper Park on the evening of November 25th for an entertaining session of music, song and dance. We look forward to seeing you there!

FOCUS FORTY
Being Positive/Looking for good things.
We need to look for and appreciate the good things in our lives and see problems as a challenge. Remember, we can share a challenge with others and get their ideas. If the outlook is always negative, then it is difficult to find a solution. Often when we use the words, “I can’t…..”, we mean “I don’t want to……”.
Think about how you might answer these questions.
- What is good about your life right now?
- What can you do?
- What are you proud of?
- Can you turn your problems into challenges?
PROCEDURES FOR……
UPDATING PARENT/CARER CONTACT DETAILS
Please ensure our office have your correct contact details – telephone numbers (for us to contact you – particularly important in the case of an emergency with your child), and email address (for invoices, newsletter, etc). Please also ensure that your child/ren’s emergency contacts are up to date.
ADMINSTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child requires staff to administer medication at school, please contact the school office in the first instance to discuss your child’s requirements.
Please note, school staff will only administer medication that:
- has been prescribed by a qualified health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist)
- is in its original container
- has an attached pharmacy label. Pharmacy label must show prescribing doctor’s name.
Office staff will ask you to complete and sign Section 1 of the Administration of medication at school record sheet.
School staff are bound by these regulations and we hope that all parents will acknowledge and cooperate with these rules.
HEAD LICE
The presence of head lice is a very common childhood occurrence in the community. The primary responsibility for the management and treatment of head lice in students belongs with parents.
As a school we notify parents via a letter if a parent has reported to the school that their child has head lice. This letter is sent to all the students in the class.
Students who are suspected of having head lice or eggs present in their hair are not excluded from class or school. However, if notified by the school, a parent may choose to remove their child from school to administer immediate treatment to their child.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE
EVERY DAY COUNTS – the message is the same in 2020. The simple fact is, the more regularly your child attends school, the more they learn. Aside from illness and bereavement, for example, attendance is expected every day. Keep an eye out on Facebook for regular videos from Education Queensland. If for any reason your child will be absent from school, please ring our 24/7 absentee line on 54 808 260 prior to 8.45am.
STAFF MEETING DAY - TUESDAY
Parents, please be advised that on Tuesday afternoon I request that all teaching staff attend a meeting which starts at 3:00pm. Staff will leave their rooms quickly once the bell rings to signal the end of the day. If you have anything urgent to discuss with your child’s teacher please leave a message at the office for that teacher

DRAGONS RUGBY PLAYERS WANTED
PROUD CHAPPY!
It was interesting to catch a glimpse of three children from year 3 developing their character strengths during their lunch break playtime recently.
Lunch breaks are always interesting and jammed-pack with children all displaying and developing their personalities and strengths in one busy place - namely the library - during a Chappy Club activity.
Unbeknown to them they are learning from each other how to respond to situations, e.g., how they feel about a certain something or someone, their action, reaction to differences of opinions and their reflections on life and what they value most in life right now. Character strengths like honesty, fairness, kindness, curiosity, forgiveness, hope and humour are but a handful of character traits that are often used and sometimes challenged during these times.
Three very proud children, Josh, Indiana and Brennan from year 3 were very pleased to be the first to receive Chappy's Mindful Moments Award for their inspirational idea of 'holding a meeting', just for the 3 of them, to iron out a few 'issues' the group was having.
Each member of the group practised a non-judgemental approach to the situation at hand while remaining mindful of each other's feelings (emotions). It was an amicable outcome which was very pleasing for all concerned. Well done, great teamwork!
I am optimistic that I will be printing more awards in the not too distant future!

POETRY FROM 4PT AND 4SF
PARTY by Billie M
(4PT)
I love a funny party,
A land of Donald Ducks.
Of fluffy, beauty whales,
Of pink and purple trucks.
I love her close-up paintings,
I lover her new blue tree.
Her rockets and her pockets,
A happy place for me!
SNAILS by Anna H.
(4SF)
Slower than ever, peaceful and calm, slimy and small.
Every time I touch it, it curls up into a ball.
When the French people see one, they grab a knife.
The poor snail is scared for its life.
They make quite a trail, slimy and sticky.
I think it’s rather icky!
Some can sleep for three years.
Some people have BIG FEARS!!
SLOTH by Finn J
I own a lovely sloth,
He looks just like a moth.
And if I happen to destroy his tree
He will find a way to get back at me.
He really loves his food and drink,
He dyed his fur bright fluro pink.
He will hang upside down, he’s really slow,
If he sees food he’ll give it a go!
