PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we make our way towards the end of term with the cooler weather, it is important to ensure students have a school jumper. Jumpers are available from the school tuckshop through the Qkr App. Uniform items ordered online are delivered to your child’s class.
It is at this time of year we would normally be getting ready for our annual two-day athletics carnival; unfortunately with the COVID 19 restrictions we are unable to hold our carnival this term. We’re hoping to hold our athletics carnival at a later date in Term 3.
From next Monday 14th June we will be reducing our staggered pick up times. Students in classes PBB, P/1JM, 1LS, 1/2KT and 2KL will be coming down to the gates at 2:40pm with their teacher. Students in 3/4PT and 4JC will join 4/5SF, 5CL, 6MM and 6MW who are released from their classroom at 2:50pm.
Parents and carers are reminded to wait outside the school grounds and please adhere to social distancing to keep everyone safe.

It is important to ensure that if your child has any flu-like symptoms they do not attend school. Please phone the absence line and let our staff know. If your child is unwell at school with any flu-like symptoms you will be contacted to collect your child. It is essential that your current contact details and your child’s emergency contact details are kept up to date.
COVID-19 TESTING
If your child has been unwell with flu like symptoms and your child is/has been tested for COVID-19 they must stay away from school until a negative result has been received. Please notify the office staff if your child is undergoing testing and the result of this test.
ACADEMIC REPORTING SEMESTER ONE
The Department of Education has modified the requirements for reporting student achievement for Semester One. Schools are required to provide a report using the information that they have available for Term 1 and Term 2. This information will be modified from the planned assessment program.
This is an ethical approach to this reporting period to support our students with their learning. Students will only be assessed on learning that has occurred at school.
To ensure our students and teachers have ample opportunity for teaching and learning, our Semester One report cards will not be sent home until the beginning of Term 3.
STAFFING UPDATE
Commencing next term we have a number of staffing changes.
Our Guidance Office, Dr Denise Patton-King is taking leave for the remainder of the year. We welcome Kirsty Brady back to our school as our Guidance Officer.
Mrs Megan McIntyre and her family are making the move back to Western Australia. Megan has been part of our school community for the past 3 years, stepping in part way through a term to teach Mr Thompson’s class when he moved onto a Principal position in Gympie. Megan has been a valued member of our teaching team and will be greatly missed by students and staff. Mr John Brennan and Ms Lesley Whitehouse will be teaching 6MM for semester 2.
We also welcome back Ms Jodi Taylor from maternity leave. Jodi will be team teaching with Ms Jess Askew.
STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME
Thank you to all parents that have paid their SRS or have made arrangements to make payments with Carol our Business Manager. Participation in this scheme provides access to various learning materials and resources including Reading Eggs and Mathletics.
FACILITIES UPDATE
Our school is still undergoing some facilities improvements to improve building access and to alleviate some of drainage issues we have around the buildings. Works are still ongoing and should be completed by the end of the term.

It has been wonderful to see the beaming faces of parents and students at the school gates and classroom feedback from around the school has been overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to all our parents and carers for supporting your children, our community and school over the last couple of months. We hope to be able to welcome our families, visitors and volunteers back into our school next term.
Regards
Alyson
P&C NEWS
We would like to thank Sara for her service as Co-convenor of the tuckshop over the last 18 months. Sara stepped into the role early last year after accepting a very casual position as a relief person in the tuckshop. She brought passion and a caring nature to her role (along with her joyful smile) that will be missed, and we wish her all the best.
This has opened up a position in the tuckshop of Co-convenor, sharing the role with Catherine who over the last 12 months has streamlined the running of the tuckshop. The position offers a minimum of 8 hours per week. If you would like more information on the role, please email psspandc@hotmail.com. Applications close on the 16 June 2020 at 5pm.

PROCEDURES FOR
UPDATING PARENT/CARER CONTACT DETAILS
Please ensure our office have your correct contact details – telephone numbers (for us to contact you – particularly important in the case of an emergency with your child), and email address (for invoices, newsletter, etc). Please also ensure that your child/ren’s emergency contacts are up to date.
ADMINSTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child requires staff to administer medication at school, please contact the school office in the first instance to discuss your child’s requirements.
Please note, school staff will only administer medication that:
- has been prescribed by a qualified health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist)
- is in its original container
- has an attached pharmacy label. Pharmacy label must show prescribing doctor’s name.
Office staff will ask you to complete and sign Section 1 of the Administration of medication at school record sheet.
School staff are bound by these regulations and we hope that all parents will acknowledge and cooperate with these rules.
HEAD LICE
The presence of head lice is a very common childhood occurrence in the community. The primary responsibility for the management and treatment of head lice in students belongs with parents.
As a school we notify parents via a letter if a parent has reported to the school that their child has head lice. This letter is sent to all the students in the class.
Students who are suspected of having head lice or eggs present in their hair are not excluded from class or school. However, if notified by the school, a parent may choose to remove their child from school to administer immediate treatment to their child.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE
EVERY DAY COUNTS – the message is the same in 2020. The simple fact is, the more regularly your child attends school, the more they learn. Aside from illness and bereavement, for example, attendance is expected every day. Keep an eye out on Facebook for regular videos from Education Queensland. If for any reason your child will be absent from school, please ring our 24/7 absentee line on 54 808 260 prior to 8.45am.
STAFF MEETING DAY - TUESDAY
Parents, please be advised that on Tuesday afternoon I request that all teaching staff attend a meeting which starts at 3:00pm. Staff will leave their rooms quickly once the bell rings to signal the end of the day. If you have anything urgent to discuss with your child’s teacher please leave a message at the office for that teacher

MENTAL WELL-BEING STRATEGIES TO USE AT HOME - ONLINE ZOOM SESSION MONDAY 22 JUNE
2020 has been a year of unprecedented changes and upheaval with no-one left unaffected by the events of the year. Increases in anxiety and stress levels have been well-documented in recent times. In my classroom, I place a great emphasis on the importance of supporting student's mental health by incorporating strategies from positive education (based on the science and research of positive psychology). During the 'Learning at Home' period, I offered the parents in my class an online session to discuss how they can support both their own mental well-being and that of their child/children.
I am happy to offer that support session to all parents of the school on how you could incorporate some of these strategies at home. If you would like to attend a half hour online session (parents only) please reply to a quick online survey by Wednesday 17 June. This survey will simply collate the information for me at the link below.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/382XBMH
We would use the Zoom platform for the session. When I have collated the information from the survey, I will send an invitation to the Zoom meeting for those who were interested in attending.

1LS and THE THREE LITTLE PIGS
1LS have been comparing the characters from the story The Three little pigs. We discussed which character we preferred. We also made a picture of the pigs.
