ADMIN NEWS
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome back to the last term of the year and welcome to all our new students and their families who have joined us. WOW, a year like no other! This term is jam packed full of exciting events for your children to enjoy. We have the junior and senior swimming carnivals, our prep transition days for our new prep students in 2026 and the all-important end of year events.
At the end of last term there were numerous items of clothing in lost property. Many of these items were not named. I encourage all parents to please label all their children’s clothing especially hats and jumpers. Could all parents please check their child’s hat and jumper to ensure they have not taken home another student’s belongings by mistake.
We are continuing our Wellbeing and English focus (writing) in Term 4.
2026 CLASSES
It is important to understand that classes are planned with great care to provide:
- A balance of the range of academic abilities within each class and across classes
- A balance of students who have learning needs across classes
- A balance of students who are role models in each class and across classes
Classes once formed, are matched to teachers in the attempt to provide the best possible combination to ensure a successful and enjoyable year for all. Specific teacher or non-teacher requests are difficult and undermine our caring, sharing and achieving together ethos. It is difficult to meet individual requests when there are often over 25 students to consider in a class and we are a small school with a small student population. Multiage classes are carefully designed and matched with highly experienced teachers.
Shortly you will receive a purple form regarding planning for 2026. If you wish to do so, please complete this form and return it to the office. You can help us by providing information that focuses on good learning friends, learning needs or support only. We value all children and teachers so please be considerate when completing this form. Pomona State School staff work as a team to promote outcomes and have a strong level of collegiality and expectations about teamwork. We are currently planning 11 classes for next year with multiple multi age classes due to the size of our cohorts of students.
DO YOU HAVE A CHILD STARTING PREP IN 2026?
Our school wants to ensure your child and family enjoy a warm welcome to our community and a positive start to school. A successful transition to school is more than a great first day. It is your child feeling welcome, safe and confident in their new school environment.
SWIMMING
It is starting to warm up again and luckily for us here at Pomona we are swimming again in term 4! P.E swimming lessons have commenced (Wednesday and Thursday) with our swimming carnival also planned for week 7 on 19th and 20th November.
Students will need to bring:
Togs, swim shirt, swim cap, towel, bag for wet clothes and all jewelry removed. Sunscreen is provided.
Please note: Goggles are not compulsory to swim but are recommended. If children believe they need goggles to swim, then they need to bring their own. All students are expected to swim as it is part of the school curriculum and is reported on as part of the Semester Two report card.
As always, parental assistance during lessons in Prep and Year 1 is a tremendous help for us and means your child gets more time in the water. Unfortunately, if we don’t get enough parents to meet the required ratio the Prep and Year 1 students don’t get as much time in the water. Please, if you are free during your child’s swim time, come and have a swim and help out. All parent/carer volunteers assisting with swimming lessons will require a blue card. Please see the office to complete your blue card application.
PRESENTATION DAY
Our annual presentation day ceremony will take place on Monday 8th December in our school hall.
QPARENTS INFORMATION
As we begin Term 4, we’d like to remind families that our school is moving digitally managing Excursion Information and Consent Forms via Education Queensland’s preferred communication platform — QParents.
With most families already registered and actively using QParents for tasks such as notifying student absences and making payments, many are finding the convenience of accessing school-related information a welcome support in their busy lives.
There are many benefits to using QParents, including:
- Absence notifications
- Academic reporting
- Online payments
- Consent forms
- Updating student details
Having all families connected through QParents significantly streamlines our school operations and strengthens communication across our community. If you haven’t yet registered, we kindly ask you to do so to help us move towards a more efficient and connected school environment.
What is QParents?
QParents is a secure and user-friendly online portal that allows you to access your child’s school information and stay engaged with our school. Available via website or mobile app, QParents provides:
- Live attendance and absence records, with the ability to notify the school of absences
- Academic report cards
- Unpaid invoice details, payment history, and online payment options
- Personal student details, including medical conditions and address updates
- Enrolment information
You can log in at any time to notify us of absences (past, present, or future), late arrivals, or early departures.
Getting Started
If you haven’t created a QParents account yet, you will have received an email with a unique invitation code. Please follow the instructions in that email to complete your registration. Initial setup and student linking must be done on a desktop or laptop. Once registered, you can access QParents via your mobile device using a browser or the QParents app (available for iPhone and Android).
Data Security
All information in QParents is sourced directly from the secure IT system used by Queensland state schools. Only authorised individuals can access student data, and if you choose not to register, your child’s information will not be available through QParents.
If you’re already using QParents, we hope you’re enjoying the benefits of staying connected with our school.
For assistance, please contact the office or visit the QParents Help website
Cheers,
Alyson Covey

EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING FOR THE POMONA SS SPRING FAIR – IT’S ON THIS SATURDAY 18TH!!

The school is buzzing, stalls are coming together, wildlife shows and animal farms are almost here and the sideshow alley is underway. Parents are frantically organising food stalls, the choirs and bands are practising, Pomona's Got Talent finalists have been announced, and the Kids Handmade stalls are busy creating. It must be almost time for the 2025 Pomona State School Spring Fair!
This year we are so excited to announce that in addition to our regular Spring Fair fun, each of our 11 classes have also been creating an outdoor art installation to lead visitors through our beautiful school on fair day. We cannot wait to see the Art Trail our students have created.
We will keep you posted with a map and timetable of events, but for now, save the date. Saturday October 18th, 10am - 2pm. We cannot wait to see the school community and the wonderful wider community come to visit our 2025 Spring Fair & Art Trail.

LIGHT, SOUND AND CREATIVE MINDS IN 2JA
In Term 3, we explored the fascinating world of light and sound. Students investigated how these forces are produced and manipulated through hands-on experiments and creative exploration. As part of the unit, we designed and built our own musical instruments using recycled and found materials. From drums and shakers to guitars, didgeridoos and castanets, our classroom came alive with rhythm and creativity — awakening everyone’s inner rocker!
