ADMIN NEWS
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all enjoyed a restful and refreshing school holiday break. It’s wonderful to see our students return with such enthusiasm, ready for another term of learning, growth and connection.
Term 3 is always a busy and exciting part of the school year. Over the coming weeks, students will continue to build on their progress, engage in rich classroom learning, and take part in a range of opportunities across the curriculum – from sporting events and excursions to performances, whole-school celebrations and school camps.
We also look forward to continuing our strong partnership with you. Your support makes a significant difference in your child’s learning, and we encourage families to stay involved by attending upcoming school events, monitoring homework routines, and maintaining open communication with teachers.
As always, our staff are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment for every student. Let’s work together to make Term 3 a positive and productive one for all.
Bully Zero – Free Parent Information Session
A valuable opportunity is being provided to parents/carers of our schools within the region, to participate in a free face-to-face 1.5-hour workshop facilitated by Bully Zero, a leading bully prevention organisation. The workshop Bully Zero, is designed to proactively support parents to understand what bullying is and what parents can do to support their children to be safe both online and when face to face with their peers.
The attached flyer provides information regarding locations, inclusive of the online option and how to register for the workshops. Participants must register for the workshops.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning BEFORE school from 8am. The Breakfast Club window must close at 8:40am. Students are not served after this time as that is the start of the school day. Please ensure your child arrives before this time to ensure they are able to be served and finish their breakfast before the school day begins. We thank the many volunteers who support the breakfast at our school.
Absences
Don’t forget to get in touch with us to let us know if your child will be away from school for any reason. Leave us a message on the absence line and we will ensure your child’s attendance record is updated without having to call you to check in to ensure all is well. Please phone in your child’s absences on 54 808 222 and ensure you leave a reason for the absence.
Ensuring your child attends school on time everyday sets them up for a great start to the day. Arriving with plenty of time to put their belongings in the correct spaces within the classroom allows for a smooth transition to learning.
Absence letters will be sent home each fortnight, please complete and return to your child’s teacher or the office.
High School Transition Information
On Friday 27th June, Year 6 Students experienced a day at Noosa District State Hight School – Pomona Campus. Students experienced a range of subjects offering diverse activities throughout the day.
Prep 2026
Do you or someone you know have a Prep aged child starting school in 2026? Join us for a tour every second Tuesday.
🎉 100 Days Smarter! 🎉
This week, our youngest learners reached a very special milestone — 100 Days of Prep!
What an incredible journey it has been since their very first day of school. In just 100 days, our Prep students have grown in confidence, independence, and curiosity. They’ve explored letters and numbers, made new friends, developed routines, and discovered the joy of learning.
To celebrate, students and staff enjoyed a fun-filled day packed with activities centred around the number 100. From building with 100 blocks, to creating colourful “100 Day” crowns, to dressing as 100-year-olds — the enthusiasm was contagious! The smiles, laughter and sense of pride made it a truly memorable occasion.
A huge thank you to our Prep teachers, teacher aides and families for your ongoing support in making these first 100 days such a positive and successful start to school life.
We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days bring!

Morning Arrival Time and Supervision
We would like to remind all families that students should not arrive at school before 8:00am. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, as there is no staff supervision or access to first aid available before this time.
If students arrive before this time, they are to sit in the junior undercover area. We ask that all students go directly to this area upon arrival and remain seated quietly.
At 8:15am, the school library will open and students may move there if they wish, under staff supervision.
On the completion of the school day, we ask that parents are prompt to collect students from their classroom or pre-arranged meeting location. Students who travel via bus are supervised by staff in the junior undercover area.
All prep students are to be dropped to their classroom and collected from their classroom.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide a safe and supportive environment for all students. If you require before or after school care, please contact Camp Australia for information on available options.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

CHAPLAINCY AT POMONA STATE SCHOOL
The role of a School Chaplain (Chappy) is to provide social, emotional, and other forms of support to the school community, particularly to students. Chappies offer a listening ear, a caring presence, and hope, helping young people navigate challenges such as friendship issues, family breakdown, bullying, mental health struggles, and more.
At Pomona State School, the Chaplain supports students, staff, and families by:
- Building trust and offering non-judgmental, compassionate care
- Being a positive role model and safe adult to talk to
- Providing spiritual support if requested
- Supporting wellbeing through conversations, activities, and encouragement
- Assisting in times of personal or community crisis
- Helping connect families with local community groups and services or organizing the provision of basic needs
Chaplain Matty Bateson started in July 2025 and generally works on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays, employed through SU Australia and supported by the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program (NSCSWP), along with community donations and school fundraising efforts.
Voluntary Participation & Consent
Participation in Chaplaincy programs is voluntary. Parents and caregivers are asked to provide consent for their child’s involvement via a form available at enrolment or upon request. This ensures families are informed about:
- The scope of Chaplaincy Services at the school
- Their right to give or withdraw consent at any time
- The range of optional programs linked to Chaplaincy
For more information or to discuss your child’s participation, please contact the school office at
(07) 5480 8222 or admin@pomonass.eq.edu.au
CHAPPY NEWS

Hi everyone!
It’s a pleasure to join Pomona State School as your new Chaplain (Chappy), alongside my ongoing role at Cooroy State School, where I’ve served for the past five years (except 2022). I’m excited to support both communities together and further connect with students, families, staff, volunteers, and externally with local organizations such as Pomona Community House, etc.
At Cooroy, I’ve organized activities and events for students such as Drumbeats & Rhythms (with djembes and cajon drums), sing-alongs with my guitar or Spotify, and Cooroy’s Got Talent. I’ve also assisted with school sports and athletics, and supported students in their social and emotional wellbeing through both one-on-one chats and group settings. Additionally, I’ve helped families who are doing it tough—organising hampers, frozen meals, and vouchers, as well as other forms of support.
I’m looking forward to bringing a similar energy and care to Pomona. For now, my focus is on building connections organically within the school community, rather than jumping into running programs. That said, I’m excited to assist Joel with Pomona’s Got Talent!
You’ll usually find me at Pomona on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8.15am to 3.15pm, and often at Breakfast Club on Wednesday mornings.

A bit about me:
- Home: I live in Como near Kin Kin, helping Mum manage the 13-acre property since Dad passed in 2022.
- Music: I’ve performed live music since 1999—solo, duo, and in bands, from rock to gospel. I also sing and play guitar at aged care homes, which is a blessing to be able to bring joy to the elderly. This includes having some school students sing with me at Kabara, which they love, and so do the elderly. Additionally, I provide music every week at a health and wellness retreat.
- Sports/Exercise: In my youth, I competed in athletics, squash, and played lots of indoor cricket. These days, I keep fit by working out at home, going for walks, and I enjoy playing the occasional round of golf.
- Life Coaching: I’ve been passionate about personal and professional development for years and recently started a life coaching business, currently focusing on ‘Helping Singles 35+ stuck or lonely unlock purpose, joy, confidence, & balance across key facets of life.’ This will supplement my part-time Chaplaincy work along with some music gigs.
Warm regards,
Chappy Matty
YEAR 1 AND 2 STUDENTS VISIT THE MUSEUM
Last term, Year 1 and 2 students visited the Pomona Museum. In HASS we had been learning about past and present and the changes that have taken place in our local community. With the help of the wonderful museum volunteers, we spent the morning exploring and discovering the treasures the museum had to offer. It was a great day for us all.
